My mentors name is Amanda. She told me how her mom is an artist and that's how she got started. Her blog link is: www.angullerud.weebly.com. Well i would like to have someone to look up to for advice and help on my art work.

So basically, you get a rubber lino-cut thing and you use this little cute carving tool. You use the tool to carve out your design (on a separate piece of paper then transfer it to your rubber by using sharpie). After you carve it, use ink to transfer on new paper. Then you're basically done.
I incorporated line by having waves in the background. I like the shape of the turtles but if i could do it again i would add more m=background texture! I morphed a tape roll with a snake because it seemed like a something you would see in a movie, where magic would change a harmless item into something deadly. I decided to do this particular piece after my first idea didn't turn out the way i wanted. I had thought of many ideas but some seemed too challenging in the time I had left to finish the project. I think the best part of the drawing is the shadow and how I made the tape roll look realistic. I probably would change how I did the background; it isn't bad but it looks like the ground changes colors instead of into a wall.
This is my first charcoal drawing. Charcoal is a very messy medium but also very fun. The three kinds of charcoal we learned about are pencil, vine, and stick. Vine is the easiest one to use because if you mess up you can just blend it in. The darkest kind of charcoal is stick and is good for shadows and parts of the drawing. When using charcoal is it very important to have a good eraser, I preferred the kneaded one. Overall charcoal is a messy medium but the end results can be the best of all of them. Pencil is probably the easiest medium because you can obviously erase really easily only if you are using a regular (non-mechanical) pencil. Pencil drawings look very good when you add value and make it look 3D. Disadvantages of pencil is that it can be hard to get dark enough unless you have darker pencils. Pencil drawings are important because they are mainly the base of all drawings. Pen is a very challenging yet fun medium. Pen can be used to outline or to draw. The different types of shading are hatching, cross hatching, stippling, random line, varied hatch and more. This medium is difficult because you cannot erase which is difficult if you make a mistake and if you do make a mistake you have to work with your mistake or use white out. The outcome of pen is very pretty and can look very realistic when done right. It's a very fun and spontaneous medium because you have to work with what you have. My favorite warm-up has been the upside down man because it showed me that I need to look at all angles of an object or picture. Also i learned that if you cannot draw the item right side up then turn it upside down and try it that way. My man didn't turn out very proportional but its okay because practice will make me better.
The artist i chose is Hiroko Kubota, she emibroiders peoples favorite animals into the pocket of shirts. She lives in Nara, Japan with her son who first inspired her to create the shirts when he asked if he could have a cat on his shirt. She has an Esty account where people can request what kind of animal they want. Her website is: https://www.flickr.com/people/hiroko-and-5/. What I think is so inspiring about this artist is that she took creating a shirt for son into a full fledged business. Well obviously the cute animals draw me in and also the detail each shirt has, they look like real animals (which is very impressive). I would personally love one of these shirts! |
