This is my first charcoal drawing. Charcoal is a very messy medium but also very fun. The three kinds of charcoal we learned about are pencil, vine, and stick. Vine is the easiest one to use because if you mess up you can just blend it in. The darkest kind of charcoal is stick and is good for shadows and parts of the drawing. When using charcoal is it very important to have a good eraser, I preferred the kneaded one. Overall charcoal is a messy medium but the end results can be the best of all of them. Pencil is probably the easiest medium because you can obviously erase really easily only if you are using a regular (non-mechanical) pencil. Pencil drawings look very good when you add value and make it look 3D. Disadvantages of pencil is that it can be hard to get dark enough unless you have darker pencils. Pencil drawings are important because they are mainly the base of all drawings. Pen is a very challenging yet fun medium. Pen can be used to outline or to draw. The different types of shading are hatching, cross hatching, stippling, random line, varied hatch and more. This medium is difficult because you cannot erase which is difficult if you make a mistake and if you do make a mistake you have to work with your mistake or use white out. The outcome of pen is very pretty and can look very realistic when done right. It's a very fun and spontaneous medium because you have to work with what you have. My favorite warm-up has been the upside down man because it showed me that I need to look at all angles of an object or picture. Also i learned that if you cannot draw the item right side up then turn it upside down and try it that way. My man didn't turn out very proportional but its okay because practice will make me better.
